Walk & Talk
Land acknowledgement

On whose land we walk.

The routes we use sit within the Treaty 13 territory and the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, the Wendat, and the Anishinaabe. The Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant — an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the territory around the Great Lakes — still shapes how this land is meant to be held.

Walking outdoors makes that history more concrete than reading about it. I name it here, and aim to keep noticing it on the trail: in the ravines, along the shoreline, and at the meeting points we use.
