The questions most people ask.
And a few I'd ask if I were on your side of the screen. If your question isn't here, the consult call is the right place for it.
Clinical
Who is this not for?
Walking sessions probably aren't the right first step if you're in acute crisis, actively suicidal, in early recovery from a substance use disorder, or working through severe trauma that needs a quiet, contained room. We can talk about it on the consult and I'll be honest if I think a different setting will serve you better.
Will we run into people you know?
It happens occasionally — Toronto is large, and the parks are popular. We'll cover what to do at the start: typically a brief, unbothered hello and we keep walking. You don't have to explain anything.
Logistics
Where do we meet?
I have three default meeting points — Spadina Pier at Harbourfront, the Bloor entrance to High Park, and the Brick Works at the Don Valley. We pick the one closest to you before your first session.
How often do we meet?
Most clients start weekly. After a few months we often shift to biweekly. There's no minimum commitment — you can stop whenever the work feels complete or whenever you need a break.
Practical
What happens if it's raining?
Light rain, we walk — bring a hood. Heavy rain or thunder, we move it indoors (a quiet café with a corner, or a video session). I send a weather call by 9am the morning of the session so we're both on the same page before you leave the house.
What should I wear?
Whatever you'd wear for a forty-minute neighbourhood walk. Layers in the shoulder seasons, sturdy shoes, water if you like. We're not hiking.
How much does it cost?
$185 for a fifty-minute session. Most extended-benefit plans cover psychotherapy by an RP — I'll provide a receipt you can submit. The 15-minute consult is free.
Do you take insurance directly?
No direct billing for now — you pay at the end of the session and I email you a receipt the same day. Some plans only reimburse psychologists or social workers; check yours before we start.
